Success stories : 2019-20

A success story on Institutional convergence for sustainable livelihood and self pemployment.

Agriculture and allied activities is the primary source of income for the native people of the region. Livestock based mixed farming is the predominant farming system adopted.

The rural area showed sporadic growth of small scale commercial poultry unit since few years back but lack of technical know-how and non availability coupled with higher input cost limits their expansion and even closured of some of the units. The demand of meat especially vanaraja is growing day by day which is being met by imparting  Vanaraja  chicks from all district of Manipur.

Since the inception of KVK Imphal West capacity building programmes for farmers has been continuously carried out. It was revealed from the post having feedback survey that the farmers perceived the technologies to the helpful and was willing to take up those but the financial bottleneck; lack of service support, lack of readily supply of inputs etc. had limited their adoption.

The KVK started awareness programmes to the interested amongst the farmers and helped in establishing functional linkage with the financial institution (NABARD).

In the model the KVK took the lead role as interlinkage hinge between different agricultural and allied activities out of those one entrepreneur Mr. L .Basanta Singh in Leiphrakpham village Imphal west during 2011 upto till now was motivated to start vanaraja chick farming in commercial way. The KVK provided advisory services capacity building project development and backward and forward linkages to the farmers’ club. In an interaction with our KVK staff during a vaccination programme, they requested for a health check up. To avail a vocational training programme to be conducted by our staff on backward poultry production. Manipur NABARD provide financial and technical support to the KVK to form the farmers clubs. An initial grant amount of Rs 10,000 for 10 farmer’s club for 4 years was sanctioned for office maintenance and book keeping.
